Nestled along England’s dramatic Jurassic Coast, the walk from Lulworth Cove to Durdle Door is the top suggestion for our guests staying at Honeysuckle Cottage. It’s not just a walk – it’s a journey through time, geology, and some of the most awe-inspiring coastal scenery the UK has to offer.

Lulworth Cove to Durdle Door Walk

This stunning walk along Dorset’s Jurassic Coast takes you from the sheltered shores of Lulworth Cove to the iconic limestone arch of Durdle Door. Though just over a mile each way, the route offers sweeping coastal views, dramatic cliff edges, and a real sense of connection to the ancient landscape.

The walk begins at the main car park in Lulworth Cove, or even better – from your front door if you’re staying nearby at Honeysuckle Cottage. Just a short stroll from the village centre, Honeysuckle Cottage makes the perfect base for exploring the area, allowing you to beat the crowds and enjoy the peace of an early morning or golden hour walk.  You'll also benefit from a driveway so avoid the fees parking in West Lulworth.

From Lulworth Cove, follow the clearly marked South West Coast Path heading west. The path climbs steeply up the chalk cliffs, offering breathtaking views back over the Cove and out to sea. Take your time on the ascent – the incline is short but fairly sharp, but there are plenty of natural stopping points to admire the scenery.

Once at the top, the walk levels out and continues along the grassy clifftops, with panoramic views of the coast stretching in both directions. On a clear day, you can see far along the Jurassic Coast, with its rolling cliffs and craggy outcrops.

Soon, you’ll catch your first glimpse of Durdle Door, its stone arch framing the turquoise waters beyond. Descend the steep, stepped path down to the beach if you'd like to get closer, or stay up on the cliffs for the classic postcard view.

After soaking in the views, you can retrace your steps back to Lulworth Cove. The return journey offers a fresh perspective on the landscape, especially in the changing light of the afternoon.

Total Distance: Approx. 2.5 miles (round trip)
Difficulty: Moderate (short but steep climbs)
Time: 1.5 to 2 hours, including stops for views and photos
